Unifor Local 707 Collective Agreement 2020
We chose this idea to inform our residents, businesses and media that the city is not ready to participate in the negotiation. We have also chosen it to show management that we are united with the conclusion of the conciliation on 8 and 9 January 2020 and that we are ready to stick together until a new contract is signed. The general weakness of ratifications reflects profound differences within members and an important and critical component of opposition to the model. Even though the Oakville bargaining committee approved the agreement (including the local president and the plant president), the treaty was still rejected. This is unprecedented. With real leadership (from below or from above), this vote could have been made on the entire Ford membership. Before the midnight bargaining period expired, Ford had agreed to resolve all local issues in Oakville and promised new investment in its Windsor plant (part of Local 200) – but threatened to withdraw all production from Canada if the union refused the model. It can be argued that this treatise symbolizes the end of the era of the refreshing and revolutionary leadership of the CAW in the struggle against neoliberalism in the labor movement and in the workplace. The era that began with the challenge of concessions, bonuses, free trade and the effects of lean production is being overtaken by an agreement that supports the US UAW, takes “leadership” in abandoning defined benefit pensions, and jails staff on two levels. Today, 1329 CUPE members held an information rally in front of the town hall between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

At GM, the contract was closed at 65%, the lowest figure since CAW`s inception. FCA approved by 70 percent. Many workers were happy that some type of investment had been promised, that there had been increases (albeit modest) and that full-time work had been promised to the SWEs. But others saw the weaknesses of the agreements. National and local leaders are asking members of the Ford Motor Company to vote in favor of the deal. Ratification meetings are taking place today to discuss the details of the provisional agreement.
The results of the ratification vote will be announced on Monday 28 September. The 2019-2023 collective agreement was ratified tonight at the Council meeting. Copies of the collective agreement will be available shortly. The collective agreement is also published on the website. March 14, 2020 We are currently working on a COVID 19 information page on the site. All updates are posted there, along with links to resources from other government agencies. It is clear that the two-tiered wage structure, which former CAW President Bob White once called “cancer,” would not be eliminated or reduced in these agreements. On Friday, January 17, 2020, members of Local 1329 held a special meeting to ratify the interim agreement and voted in favor of the agreement. The agreement is now submitted to City Council for review and approval. All union members are informed as soon as copies of the agreement are available….
