A written collaboration agreement is required for all Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) working outside of a hospital or Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Centre (ASTC) in clinical practice. An AFN may provide services in an accredited hospital or ASTC without a written cooperation agreement or delegated prescription authority. The written cooperation agreement applies to the services that the physician or assistant podiatrist generally provides to his or her patients as part of normal clinical practice. For anesthesia services, an anesthesiologist, physician, podiatrist or dentist participates through discussion and agreement with the anesthesia plan and is physically present and available on site when providing anesthesia services for the diagnosis, consultation and treatment of emergency diseases. This written cooperation agreement shall be reviewed and updated annually. A copy of this written collaboration agreement will remain in all locations where the advanced practice nurse serves and will be provided to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation upon request. All common orders or guidelines are set out or referenced in an attached document. On June 14, 2019, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) issued a final regulation that allows Registered Advanced Practice Nurses (APRNs) who meet training and education requirements to practice independently of physicians. Where applicable, the Advanced Practice Nurse shall maintain the privileges of paramedical staff in the following hospitals for the services provided: The Advanced Practice Nurse will inform each cooperating physician/podiatrist of any written cooperation agreement they have signed with other physicians/podiatrists and will provide a copy to any cooperating physician/podiatrist upon request.

As a cooperating physician/podiatrist, any prescribing authority delegated to the advanced practice nurse is set out in an attached document. In a dental practice, the CRNA can only provide services that the dentist is authorized to provide under the Illinois Dental Practice Act. The advanced practice nurse consults the cooperating physician/podiatrist on telecommunications or, if necessary, in person. In the absence of the designated cooperating physician/podiatrist, another physician/podiatrist will be available for consultations. participates in the joint formulation and approval of prescriptions or guidelines with the advanced practice nurse, as required on the basis of the practitioner`s practice, and regularly reviews those prescriptions and the services provided to patients under those prescriptions in accordance with recognized standards of medical practice and advanced practice of nursing practice; Under this agreement, the Advanced Practice Nurse will work with the physician or podiatrist cooperating in active practice to provide health care services to_______________. The regulation implements changes to the Illinois Nurse Practice Act of 2017 by introducing a comprehensive licensing process for the practice authority, allowing Illinois accredited APRNs to avoid the need for a collaboration agreement with a physician.
