Victoria (May 21, 2010) – The Vancouver Island Health Authority (HIVA) intends to begin negotiations with the Baptist Housing Society for the “rehabilitation” of Oak Bay Lodge and Mount Tolmie.C Hospital. BCGEU represents members at Oak Bay Lodge. The Employees` Union Hospital (HEU) represents workers at Mount Tolmie Hospital. In the meantime, the union reminds all BCGEU members at Oak Bay Lodge that they are protected by their Public Service Agreement (PSA) with the B.C government. The agreement provides for the creation of a joint employer-union committee to facilitate the orderly transfer of workers. BCGEU joins other seniors` facilitators and community members and raises questions about the HIVA proposal. Unresolved concerns include the sale of public spaces, disruption of continuity of care for the elderly and other issues. The union will continue to closely monitor these developments and report to members. Oak Bay City Council passed a motion to keep oak Bay Lodge in Oak Bay. BCGEU is supporting a South Island Health Coalition (SIHC) gathering on May 19 to raise concerns about elder care on the lower island. The gathering coincides with a 12:30 p.m meeting of the HIVA Board of Directors at the Queen Alexandra Centre for Children`s Health, 2400 Arbutus Road, Victoria. Please note that the manse value relates only to the calculation of pension income for the Baptiste Enrente system. It is not intended to guide the amount of housing allowance which, instead of providing a mane, must be paid to a parish priest who should be agreed between a church and a minister on the basis of the housing market on their territory. Nor should the value of the mane be considered taxable income or a taxable benefit. Under the family solution, the inmanse value used in the calculation of pension income for Members of the Baptist Plan is increased each year based on the value of the September CPI of the previous year.
